Privacy Policy — RS Desktop
Last updated: 29 September 2026
RS Desktop is a personal productivity workspace consisting of a web app, a Chrome new-tab extension, and an Android app. This policy covers all three.
What we collect
- Account data: your name, email address, and a password (stored only as a bcrypt hash). Used to authenticate you.
- Your content: todos, daily tasks, notes, habits, quotes, world clocks, workspaces, and preferences you create. This content belongs to you and is stored in the RS Desktop database solely to provide the service.
- API tokens: if you connect the extension or mobile app, a random token is stored as a SHA-256 hash so your devices can sign in. The raw token is never stored on our servers.
- Optional integration data: if you enable the Rainstreamweb integration, your portal session cookies are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) solely to sync that session between your own devices. You can remove it at any time from Settings → Integrations.
- Timezone: your timezone (e.g. Asia/Kolkata) so "today" is correct for you.
What we do NOT collect
We do not collect browsing history, web page content, location/GPS data, health data, financial data, advertising identifiers, or any analytics/tracking data. The extension does not read the pages you visit.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. There are no trackers, no ads, and no analytics in the extension or apps. The only external request the extension makes — besides your own RS Desktop server — is to a public favicon service to display site icons for your shortcuts.
Data storage & retention
Your data is stored on the RS Desktop server. Deleting content (a note, habit, todo, or workspace) deletes it from the database. Deleting your account deletes all of your data.
Your control
- Revoke API tokens any time in Settings → Extension.
- Disconnect the Rainstreamweb integration any time in Settings → Integrations.
- The extension works in guest mode with device-only storage — no account needed.
